Oomingmak Musk Ox Co-Op - Anchoarge

This shop is located at the corner of 6th and Hst in downtown Anchorage.  The store sells clothing made from the qiviut (pronounced ki-vee-ute) of the musk ox.  Qiviut  is an incredibly soft fur produced by the musk ox valued for its ability to retain heat.  This fur comes from the musk ox farm I visited and is woven into articles of clothing by Native Alaskans.

Be warned however that the production of these articles is a labor intensive process.  In other words this stuff is expensive. Even the smallest scarf was something on the order of $100.  If you are willing to pay these prices, your money does go entirely to the people that sew these garmets, so you help support a good cause.
