Musk Ox Farm -On the Road
The Musk Ox farm that supplies the Oomingmak Co-op with
qiviut is located north of Anchorage. This farm is a non-profit
organization that works to help protect the Musk Ox and provide Native
people a way to earn a living. The tour takes you on a walk to
see the Musk Ox up close. These animals are content to leave
people alone for the most part, but most are nice enough to pose for
pictures.

Some of the ox that live on this small farm were raised by volunteers,
which makes them more than happy to eat grass out of your hand.
Feeding the friendlier musk ox was surprisingly not that messy.
What struck me most about the farm was that it actually didn't smell
bad at all. The other surprising thing about these animals is
that while they resemble buffalo they are incredibly short standing
only about 4 feet tall.
The price for this tour was well worth it. All of the people that
I vacationed with had a good time on this part of our Alaska experience.
